What Every Designer Should Do Right Now
Jul 22nd
1. Back Up All Your Files Now
“Procrastination is the bad habit of putting off until the day after tomorrow what should have been done the day before yesterday.” – Napoleon Hill

I’m sure that you’ve heard this over and over again but how many of you have actually taken the time to actually do it? Just a few days ago, I read about a designer on Twitter who lost some of his files due to some of his hardware malfunctioning. That is such a bummer. Let’s learn from his experience and let’s backup our files right away. How sad would that be to lose all your important photos, projects, documents and sensitive and irreplaceable data. I am guilty of this myself. I don’t even remember the last time I backed up my data. (Currently 483 GB of files) As I am writing this article, I am already buying an external hard drive to back up my files.
Another good idea is to not only backup your local files but to backup your website files as well. If you have a WordPress blog, make sure to backup your database as well. A few months ago, my blog was hacked but thankfully, I had a backup of all my files so fixing it wasn’t too much of a hassle.
By the way, if you only want to backup your important files and not your entire hard drive, then you can try using Dropbox as well. It’s one of the best apps that I’ve used recently.

Adobe Font Finder
Jul 4th

Fonts. What designer doesn’t have too many? And we are always on the hunt for more.
The internet is a goldmine for fonts, but it’s not always easy to find just the font you’re looking for. It’s always good to have another font tool in your arsenal, and with that in mind we’re giving you a heads up on the Adobe Font Finder.
Adobe’s Font Finder works in a similar fashion to many online font tools, but in this case it’s wrapped into a slick Flash presentation that works fast and looks sharp.
Enter a bit of text for the samples to display in, check a few of the many font options to narrow down your search — and voila!
Realism in UI Design
Feb 21st

The history of the visual design of user interfaces can be described as a gradual change towards more realism. As computers have become faster, designers have added increasingly realistic details such as color, 3D effects, shadows, translucency, and even simple physics. Some of these changes have helped usability. Shadows behind windows help us see which window is active. The physicality of the iPhone’s user interface makes the device more natural to use.
